This concept came from an Illustration assignment called "From Benign to Sinister". You would take any regular inanimate object and somehow make it scary and sinister. My thumbnails jumped around from a hat to a teacup, but I stuck to the idea of a piano. I elaborated on a piano that had scratch marks on the inside of it, as if someone had been trying to claw their way out. I looked at multiple types of pianos for reference and settled for a grand piano, mostly because of the antique look it presented. The black and white of the piano helped give the more ominous look, so I decided to illustrate with graphite pencils and a white charcoal pencil for the small highlights.
